It’s like putting a censor bar over sensitive information, which takes prior notice of anyone who views it or reads the message. You can do this by surrounding the text with these tags – || ||. This is really useful for talking about anything that might “spoil” something for someone who hasn’t experienced it yet or doesn’t need to know. When someone sees it, it’s just a black bar in appearance and only opens up when someone wants it to. They have to click on it to reveal the secret!
Ways to hide text on Discord
There are a handful of ways of hiding text on Discord that you must know. Here is how you can hide text on Discord –
Doing it manually
- For this, you need to simply type two vertical bars, like ||, right before the text you want to hide.
- Then, type your “spoiler” text, which we will hide.
- Immediately after your spoiler text, type two more ||.
- So, it’ll look like this: ||This is the text||
- Click on Enter, and your text will be hidden until someone clicks on it. Any number of people can do it, depending on their number in the chat.
Highlighting
- If you want to do this instead, you can type out your message as usual.
- Now, highlight the specific part of the text you want to hide. If you want to hide the entire message, then you can hide the entire thing.
- A small formatting bar will pop up above your highlighted text on the screen now.
- Look for an “eye” icon. Click on that and now Discord will automatically add the || tags for you.
For Images and videos
- When you’re about to upload an image or video, or after pasting a link that you want to hide, look for an “eye” icon or a “Mark as Spoiler” checkbox in the preview window. You can tick check the box and it will be done.
- For links, you can just manually wrap the URL itself in || to hide it and blur it.
How does a hidden message appear?
When you hide a message on Discord, it typically appears as a black bar or a blurred box. You can’t read the text or see the image, or video within it directly. Instead, you’ll see a visual indicator that there’s hidden content, and if you want to reveal it, then you’ll have to click on it.
