09 March 2017, India:

Following an ever-increasing number of complaints of misbehavior by the driver, Uber India has decided to put an end to it. Uber India has issued community guidelines for Drivers and Riders (Passengers). The guidelines are rolled out in the 22 cities in India where Uber is active.

According to the guidelines, the driver is not allowed to flirt, touch or have sex with the rider, during or after the ride. If found guilty, the driver will be permanently banned.

The company stated, “Don’t comment on someone’s appearance or ask whether they are single. Don’t touch or flirt with other people in the car. As a reminder, Uber has a no sex rule. That’s no sexual conduct between drivers and riders, no matter what.”

“Texting, calling, or visiting someone in person after a ride has been completed is completely out of bounds,” Uber India said.

Uber will also bar riders (Passengers) and has threatened to deactivate the app of those who abuse drivers, damage the car/phone, intentionally spill drinks and food, smoke inside the vehicle or vomit inside the car after excessive drinking.

Uber was banned in Delhi back in 2015 following the alleged rape of a 27-year old woman executive who had dozed off in the backseat on her way home from a dinner party.

Apart from the this, the improved guidelines also stated, “Each city has a maximum cancellation rate, based on the average cancellation rate of drivers in that area. If your cancellation rate continues to exceed the maximum limit, you may lose access to your account,” Uber disclosed to its drivers.
