On March 17, during the Apex Legends Global Series (ALGS) 2023–24 NA Pro League Split Finals, two distinct hacks happened. While playing his match, player Noyan “Genburten” Ozkose noticed a popup with the title “TSM HALAL HOOK” appear on his screen. Several cheats are visible in the window interface and can be activated. Ozkose seems to have received a wallhack that lets him view other players over obstructions in addition to an aimbot.
Genburten knew exactly what was going on. “Someone is hacking me. He exclaimed, “I’m getting hacked,” and abruptly ended the game. The hackers soon left a note in the lobby with the subject “Apex hacking global series by Destroyer2009 & R4ndom.”
It was Phillip “ImperialHal” Dosen who fell victim to a hack. “I’m cheating, I’m cheating, I’m cheating,” he screamed. When he realized his shots were striking targets he couldn’t see, he exclaimed, “I got aimbot!” According to Fandomwire, ImperialHal attempted to play again but was banned, and the administrators swiftly shut down the server.
The NA finals have been postponed, according to the organizers, because the competitive integrity of this series is being compromised. It was announced on the official account that additional details will be released shortly. A remote code execution (RCE) problem is being exploited to insert cheats into streamers’ computers, according to a report by the Anti-Cheat Police Department, a volunteer organization that collects information about cheats and interferes with distributors. It’s unclear from the notification whether this results from the anti-cheat mechanism or the game. It is advised that competitors alter their Discord passwords, make sure their email addresses are safe, and use multi-factor authentication on all of their accounts. It’s also advised to install the OS cleanly.
The developers of Easy Anti-Cheat, a tool used in games like Apex Legends, said on Monday that they have ruled out the chance that the system has an RCE issue.
About Apex Legend
Electronic Arts and Respawn Entertainment created the free-to-play battle royale-hero shooter game Apex Legends. February 2019 saw the release of the game on PlayStation 4, Windows, and Xbox One; March 2021 saw the release of the Nintendo Switch; and March 2022 saw the release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. In May 2022, Apex Legends Mobile a touchscreen-optimized mobile game was made available on both iOS and Android platforms. Except for the aforementioned mobile devices, cross-platform play is supported by the game.
Players divide into two- or three-person teams before to the game and choose from pre-made “Legends,” or characters with unique skills. There are two ways to play the game. Up to 20 three-person squads or 30 two-person duos can land on an island in “Battle Royale” and forage for food and weapons before trying to outwit every other player in combat. Players must remain mobile or risk being outside the play area, which can be lethal, since the island’s accessible play space gradually gets smaller. The round is won by the last team standing.
The science fiction setting of Apex Legends is the same as that of Respawn Entertainment’s Titanfall series, in which a number of Titanfall series characters make cameos or are playable Legends.
