Aptera’s solar electric car is a three-wheeler that can go up to 1,000 miles of range. This vehicle now has more than 22,000 reservations. The vehicle was unveiled in 2020 as the company came back with an updated battery and solar power.
It has a super-efficient three-wheeler design. Being lightweight, and a three-wheeler, the vehicle has a drag coefficient of only 0.13. The efficiency is such that the vehicle can have 250 miles with a fairly small battery pack. The vehicle starts at $25,900. Buyers can also opt for a battery pack that can go up to 400 miles at $29,800, 600 miles at $34,600, and 1,000 miles for $44,900. Last year the company received $4 million in findings and also had more than 7,000 per order. Aptera has been moving quickly since the relaunch to bring solar vehicles to the market.
Since then people have been checking for updates from the company. About the beta prototypes testing. The company is working on bringing the vehicle to production by the end of 2022. The announcement made by them is that “More than 22,000 people have already reserved an Aptera, representing a potential $800,000,000 in orders.”  These are notable numbers, where the reservation holder has to deposit $100. Before the start of the deliveries, the company is set to have another round of crowdfunding.
Solar vehicle
This is Aptera’s second go. The company was created in 2006 with the aim of bringing to market a super-efficient three-wheeled vehicle. Unfortunately, the project didn’t work out, but the original founders recently decided to revisit the project after having launched a different successful company in the electrification space.
Aptera also offers the choice of a 100 kW front-wheel-drive system or a 150 kw all-wheel-drive powertrain. The other important aspect is the option to add embedded solar cells on the body to add electricity generation. The company believes that it can add between 16 and 40 miles of range per day, depending on the configuration.
Last year the company announced that they moved into a new 60,500-square-foot facility. To have a facility in the Sorrento Valley area of San Diego where they plan to continue the development of the electric vehicle. Aptera’s Cofounders Steve Fambro, Chris Anthony, and Michael Johnson went on to create Flux Power, a successful company that provides batteries to electrify forklifts. Now it seems like they are working on the solar vehicle much more. The interior of the Aptera is minimalist and reminiscent of Tesla’s Model 3 and Model Y. It even has a similar display and user interface.
